While filming the History Channel special "Secret Earth: Yellowstone Supervolcano" we decided that it would be informative and entertaining to shoot guns underwater and film it with a high speed camera. The goal was to see the shock wave of energy pass through the water which would closely simulate the shock wave that would spread across the earth if the Yellowstone Supervolcano violently erupted.
We tried several guns with good results but had one last attempt using a shotgun. Because the producers didn't want my hair to be wet until the last scene I had to stand up and shoot the shotgun underwater. Knowing how much the gun was going to kick backwards, I decided to hold it against my hip to absorb the kick - this proved to be a bad idea...click the video and see for yourself.
